Diphthongs
The Yeet Diphthongs pack focuses on vowel sounds that change or glide as we say them. These are called diphthongs.
You’ll see patterns such as: oi, oy, ou, ow, oo, au, and aw.
You might see words like: coin, boy, out, cow, book, moon, haul, and saw.
In each of these words, the vowel sound moves slightly as we pronounce it.
This pack includes both single-syllable and multisyllable words, which makes it ideal for learners who are developing flexibility with more complex vowel patterns.
The vocabulary ranges from lower-level to more complex words, making this pack suitable for learners progressing through phonics, as well as older students rebuilding decoding strategies.
You can extend this pack by:
• sorting by diphthong
• comparing similar patterns
• identifying diphthongs in connected text
• or moving into spelling once decoding is secure
Understanding diphthongs helps learners recognise that vowel teams don’t always represent a vowel sound and that spelling patterns give us clues about how to pronounce them.
Each pack contains 54 cards made up of
1 Instruction Card
7 ‘yeet’ Cards
46 Vocabulary Cards.
Each pack of cards comes in a beautiful tuck box.
